چکیده

Sixty-three patients, who had had a partial gastrectomy 15--27 years previously, were examined by endoscopy and multiple mucosal biopsies. No patient had a completely normal gastric mucosa; they showed varying degrees of gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, and dysplasia: 21% had significant dysplasia, and these are regarded as an 'at-risk' group requiring frequent follow-up examinations. One patient had severe dysplasia (carcinoma-in-situ), but no case of infiltrating carcinoma was found.

Alterations of the gastric stump and not resected stomach mucosa after truncal vagotomy in rats.

PURPOSE To evaluate morphological changes of the gastric stump and not resected stomach mucosa after the completion of truncal vagotomy. METHODS Eighty male Wistar rats were divided into four groups: CT, TV, RY and RYTV. In CT group, abdominal viscera were manipulated and the abdominal cavity was closed, in TV vagal trunks were isolated and sectioned, in RY a partial Roux-en-Y gastrectomy was...

Influence of duodenogastric reflux in the gastric mucosa histological changes of rats infected with Helicobacter pylori Influência do refluxo duodenogastrico nas alterações histológicas da mucosa gástrica de ratos infectados com Helicobacter pylori

Objective: to evaluate the influence of Duodenal reflux in histological changes of the gastric mucosa of rats infected with Helicobacter pylori submitted to pyloroplasty. Methods: after two weeks of acclimation, we infected 30 male Wistar rats with Helicobacter pylori. We randomly divided them into three groups: one submitted to pyloroplasty, another to partial gastrectomy and the third, only i...

Gastric mucosa after partial gastrectomy.

A partial gastrectomy of Billroth I or II type was performed in a series of 146 patients with peptic ulcer. Gastric biopsy was carried out two years later and the histology of the specimens compared with that of the body mucosa at the time of operation. In 138 patients without body atrophic gastritis (AG) before operation this condition was found in 74 (54%) two years after (46% of DU patient...

Prospective comparative study of the influence of postoperative bile reflux on gastric mucosal histology and Campylobacter pylori infection.

Biopsies of 17 peptic ulcer patients, randomly treated by partial gastrectomy with either Billroth-II (n = 9) or Roux-en-Y (n = 8) anastomosis were studied before and six months after surgery to determine the role of bile reflux in the early postoperative histological alterations of the gastric mucosa. After BII-gastrectomy bile acid reflux (median 16.1 mumol/h) was significantly higher (p less...

A study of six patients with hypertrophy of the gastric mucosa with particular reference to albumin metabolism.

Six patients with hypertrophy of the gastric mucosa (Menetrier's disease) have been studied. An incorrect diagnosis was initially made in four patients. The correct diagnosis was suggested by the appearances either of barium meal radiographs of the stomach or at gastroscopy. Estimates of both basal and maximal gastric acid secretion were within normal limits. A definitive histological diagnosis...
